Background App Refresh (iOS)

Last Updated: Jan 26, 2015 09:39AM EST
For devices running iOS 7 or later, Downcast supports Background App Refresh. iOS can wake up Downcast while in the background on multiple occasions for up to 30 seconds during which time Downcast can refresh podcast subscriptions and download episodes (based on the "Automatic Feed Refreshing" and "Automatic Downloading" options in Downcast's settings). During background app refreshes, Downcast can present notifications when new episodes are detected and all episodes are downloaded.

You can ensure Background App Refresh is enabled for Downcast in iOS Settings => General => Background App Refresh

NOTE - iOS is in complete control of the frequency with which it wakes Downcast for background tasks. This frequency can vary wildly between users and devices based on your usage pattern. We have no control over how frequently iOS wakes Downcast. Depending on how you use Downcast, iOS may wake it for background fetching every few minutes, hours, days, or even longer. Apple doesn't publish the details about this so we are unable to influence it. Our best suggestion at this time is to try to open Downcast several times a day in hopes that it will influence iOS to wake the application more frequently.
